The Art of Mehandi has existed for centuries. The exact place of its origin is difficult to track because of people in different cultures moving through the continents and taking their art forms with them and therefore sharing their art with everyone along the way.

MEHDHI- The natural and pain free art of decorating the hands and feet with henna on a ceremonial occasion. It is body panting with preparations made from the crushed leaves of the henna plants. The final aspect is a brown-reddish collared tattoo. It is not permanent, and revels itself in the epidermis. This is the outermost layer of the skin. As the epidermis in a constant state of renewal (The deepest cells in the epidermis continually create new ones and these rise gradually to the surface of the skin.) Where they die and are discarded to be replaced by newer cells as they push up to the surface. This kind of tattoo last for about two up to four weeks. There is no danger of painting anyone’s skin with henna. It is a non Toxic Plant, but there is a magic in the practice, the ritual, the ceremony, the superstitions and culture surrounding it.

Importance of Mehandi The wedding ceremonies in Rajasthan and Punjab states there is a special Mehandi party for the bridegroom people have together, sing songs, dance, organize jokes, hire musicians and have a great party for the bridegroom’s henna. The wedding ceremony would not be complete without beautiful Mehandi on bride’s legs and hands. A dark stain signifies a strong love of her husband and family. In India town and areas have different marriage and traditions and ceremonies.
